Guatemala — Volcanoes, lakes and Mayan jungle (14–15 days)

Antigua · Lake Atitlán (Mayan villages) · Highlands/markets · Petén (Tikal) · Guatemala City
Tailor-made group trip · max. 12 people · boutique hotels

Summary

Guatemala is palpable: volcanoes blazing on the horizon , markets fragrant with cacao and spices , textiles that whisper stories, and people who meet your eyes with genuine smiles. You stroll along cobblestone streets in Antigua , listen to marimba music in a plaza, savor homemade pepian , and understand that here, culture isn't displayed: it's shared .
Lake Atitlán takes your breath away with its volcanoes reflected in the water; you hop from village to village by boat—artisanal women who dye with natural dyes , coffee cooperatives and rituals that survive the test of time—and each port is a new story.
When the jungle opens up, Tikal appears: temples emerging from the green, howler monkeys, toucans… a sunrise that leaves you speechless. All at a human pace , charming hotels, and carefully curated encounters, so you can experience the essence without rushing .

What you're going to experience

Antigua — the colonial jewel

Domes, courtyards, and volcanoes as a backdrop. Climb to viewpoints, visit churches and ruins, and lose yourself in stone alleyways. Take a chocolate/cacao or textile workshop to understand why colors here are a language.

Lake Atitlán — towns with soul

A blue sunrise, a boat trip, and stops in villages where culture is shared : natural dyes , backstrap loom weaving, coffee cooperatives , and respectfully guided Mayan ceremonies. You'll eat in local homes or projects where everything tastes like home.

Highlands & markets

Big market day (according to the calendar): vegetables, flowers, masks, and huipiles . We learn to look without intruding, to ask questions, to listen to the stories behind each textile.

Mayan Jungle — Tikal at dawn

Arrival in Petén and early visit to Tikal : you climb to a temple, the mist lifts from the forest, and the jungle awakens. If logistics allow, we add a sunset visit or a complementary tour (e.g., Yaxhá) to see it in a different light.

Life-changing option — Acatenango Volcano

For those who are up for it: a night under the stars by the living fire in the distance. If you prefer tranquility, there are equally magical alternatives : viewpoints, gentle walks, ceremonies, and workshops led by master craftspeople. Here, the journey adapts to you , not the other way around.

Hotels and tables

We stayed in beautiful boutique hotels : colonial mansions in Antigua, accommodations with lake views in Atitlán, and charming jungle lodges . Small, well-located, and with attentive service.
You'll eat very well : home-style dishes (pepián, kak'ik, tamales), single-origin coffee, freshly baked bread, incredible fruits, and creative local cuisine. We choose amazing places—from markets with soul to carefully curated restaurants—prioritizing fresh produce and community projects.

Style and rhythm

  • Small group (max. 12) with coordinator in Spanish: intimate and accompanied experience.

  • Human rhythm : powerful mornings, breezy afternoons, well-chosen sunsets.

  • Private transfers, boats on the lake and domestic flights when convenient.

  • Cultural respect : take photos with permission, participate in rituals without intruding, and buy crafts fairly.

Why this edition

  • It brings together the essence of Guatemala : colonial, living Mayan villages, Lake Atitlán and Tikal at dawn.

  • Boutique hotels that combine well-being (and views).

  • Real encounters with artisans, coffee farmers and Mayan guides.

  • Optional Acatenango for those seeking an epic night; equally special, softer alternatives for those who don't.
